Racing – Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival

When: Wednesday to Saturday

Where: York Racecourse

TV: ITV Racing/Racing TV

Sky Bet odds

Following Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival is the third and final jewel in the Flat crown with four fantastic days’ of racing at the county’s premiere course – York.

The meeting starts with a bang and the hugely significant Group One Juddmonte International Stakes, this year likely to be contested by leading older horse Crystal Ocean and some choice three-year-olds in Japan and King Of Comedy.

The Darley Yorkshire Oaks and Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes take centre-stage on Thursday and Friday respectively, while the meeting builds to a crescendo with the first ever £1million Sky Bet Ebor on Saturday.

The mile and three-quarter handicap is going to be the most competitive renewal of the great race following a major boost to the prize-pot, with the likes of John Gosden, Roger Charlton and William Haggas doing battle with leading Irish handlers Willie Mullins and Ger Lyons in a bid to scoop the jackpot.

Charlton’s Withhold could prove the one to beat in the weekend feature, following a taking comeback win at Newbury and a steadily progressive profile which could end up with him contesting Group company at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day in October.

Best bet: Withhold – Sky Bet Ebor

Withhold rates a fascinating contender for the Sky Bet Ebor. His owner Tony Bloom was responsible for the red-hot market leader 12 months ago and while things didn’t pan out for Stratum 12 months ago, the famous gambler Bloom looks to have an even stronger candidate to recoup some of those losses this time around. Withhold is a stayer on a steep upward curve and made the perfect start to his campaign – when returning from an injury layoff – when scoring at Newbury. The assessor has had his say since but this looks a Group-class stayer in the making and he can cope perfectly well with a slight drop in trip before heading back to two miles for the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Champions Day at the end of the year.

Football - Liverpool v Arsenal

When: Saturday

Where: Anfield

TV: Sky Sports

Sky Bet odds

At least one perfect start to the new season will end at Anfield on Saturday night as Liverpool host Arsenal in one of August's big top-flight showdowns.

After Manchester City dropped points against Spurs in another of them, this is an excellent chance for the home side in particular to make a key early move in the title race as they look to go one better than last season.

As for Arsenal, back-to-back wins to kick off the new campaign offer great encouragement, albeit they will surely need to raise their levels here having only edged past Newcastle and Burnley.

Traditionally one of the most entertaining fixtures on the calendar, the game begins at 5.30pm local time and as well as being live on Sky Sports, you'll be able to follow the action with Sporting Life.

Football – Wolves v Man Utd

When: Monday

Where: Molineux

TV: Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event

Sky Bet odds

We'll have a lot better idea of exactly what this Manchester United side is capable of after they face a trip to Molineux, where they lost twice last season as part of a three-game unbeaten streak Wolves ran up on them.

Their 4-0 beating of Chelsea was flattering in the extreme, but it's important to note how those final three goals came about - from quick counter-attacks utilising the blistering pace of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard - throw in new signing Daniel James for good measure.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are just starting to turn Molineux into a bit of a fortress with their unbeaten run stretching to eight league games, and despite United being well equipped to play on the break, Wolves are a savvy outfit and will be careful not to leave themselves open to that.

Wolves aren't scared of playing a possession game, and United look more secure at the back with Maguire at the heart of the defence - so with these factors in mind and with the game coming so early in the season you fancy that a point would suit both sides.

Best bet: Wolves to draw with Man Utd at 9/4

Cricket - Third Ashes Test

When: Thursday to Monday

Where: Headingley, Leeds

TV: Sky Sports Ashes

Sky Bet odds

The Ashes is still delicately poised and the two teams head north to Leeds following another tough battle at Lord’s in the second Test. With only three days rest since London, both sides could be forced into changes as the fast bowlers begin to rack up the overs.

England will be desperate for Lord’s debutant Jofra Archer to be able to back up while Australia might well be forced into resting premier paceman Pat Cummins following a heavy workload in the series already.

With the likes of James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc waiting on the sidelines, Australia might feel they can bank on their superior bowling depth but Headingley is a venue that can suit England’s seam and swing bowlers and another fascinating clash is in prospect.

Headingley has been the scene of some of the most iconic Ashes memories of recent times, Ian Botham’s swashbuckling 149 not out in 1981 possibly the most famous while Mark Butcher’s unbeaten 173 led England to a famous run chase on the same ground in 2001.

Who will be England’s hero this week?

Golf – TOUR Championship

When: Thursday to Sunday

Where: East Lake, Georgia

TV: Sky Sports Golf

Sky Bet odds

The PGA Tour reaches its seasonal conclusion with the TOUR Championship, but there will be no Tiger Woods in town and therefore no defending champion after his heroics 12 months ago.

The 30 players who have qualified face a new, unique scoring system this year, with scores allocated before a ball is struck depending on where each finished on the season-long FedEx Cup.

That means one player will begin the week at 10-under, another at eight-under and so on, and from there a standard 72-hole event will take place.

For the winner, it's a cheque for $15million and unlikely in previous years, this time there can be only one.

However, if you are betting, consider that bookmakers are likely to offer odds on the golf which takes place, ignoring any allocated scores.

Sounds complicated, right? Read our preview on Monday night and, hopefully, it won't be.
