Andrea Dovizioso won the season-opening Qatar MotoGP for Ducati at the Losail International Circuit.
The 31-year-old Italian held off late pressure from Spain's reigning champion Marc Marquez to seal his ninth race success by 0.027 seconds from the Repsol rider and take an early lead the championship standings.
Dovizioso, who qualified fifth on Saturday, hit the front of the pack with five laps to go, recorded the fastest lap just minutes later and held off four-times champion Marquez to claim the honours.
Yamaha also celebrated a podium finish as Italy's Valentino Rossi came home third, while Britain's Cal Crutchlow was fourth on his Honda.
Pramac's Danilo Petrucci crossed the line fifth ahead of Spanish duo Maverick Vinales (Movistar) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol).
Enjoying his second season in MotoGP, pole sitter Johann Zarco was leading until Dovizioso overtook him with five laps remaining and dropped down the field to eventually finish eighth for Monster Yamaha - seven seconds off the lead.
Andrea Iannone (Suzuki) and Jack Miller (Pramac) completed the top 10.
