The Los Angeles Rams have handed out a four-year contract extension to quarterback Jared Goff worth $134m, including a record $110m of that being guaranteed.
After a dodgy rookie season, Goff has flourished in the two seasons Sean McVay has been head coach, winning two divisional titles and making that one Super Bowl appearances, and the team have tied their colours to the mast in proclaiming him their franchise quarterback of the future with the bumper new deal.
The $110m guarantee betters Carson Wentz's big-money deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the new contract ties Goff to the Rams until the end of the 2024 season.
The 24-year-old's full contract now is thought to be worth over $160m over the next six seasons, with his salary going from around $4m this coming season to a huge jump of $23m the year after.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Goff is not the flashest of triggermen but can make throws when needed and has developed good poise and leadership under McVay, who has been widely hailed as an offensive mastermind who also calls the plays.
Goff has a 24-14 record as staring quarterback and has thrown for 9,581 yards, with 65 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in his career to date.
