We have an excellent all-open card at Romford this evening to finish the traditional working week and we have three bets to get the weekend off to a flyer.

The Champion Stakes heats get under way and Barricane Tiger (T3) didn't let his followers down when well-punted at Central Park five days ago.

The Sussex Cup runner-up should appreciate this step up in distance and has experience of the Essex-based venue having won twice here last year.

He managed to reach the third round of the Derby in June and that piece of form sets him apart from the rest of the field, with a bold bid in this competition expected.

Bockos Alfie (T2) did this column a favour with victory at this track last week and he could make it a satisfactory evening for Pete Janssens if navigating his way through at 9.09.

The progressive son of Droopys Scolari was unfortunate enough to bump into Forest Chunk and Droopys Buick in a heat for the Gold Cup a fortnight ago, but franked that form here seven days ago with an all-the-way success.

The three-year-old looks open to progress in this sort of company and would prove tough to stop if beating likely market rival Cotton Pants (red jacket) to the first bend.

Kevin Boon's Murrys Act (T6) showed his class when making the Greyhound Derby final at Towcester earlier this summer and the strong stayer is fancied to capitalise now tackling an extra 75m at 8.21.

He showed smart form when second in the Friday Night 500 series behind Memphis Mafia earlier this year at this circuit, and given that the two-year-old has improved markedly since then, he is fancied to land the spoils.

A solo spin around this venue three days ago will have done him good following a three-week break, and a solid trapping effort would see him be very competitive at the finish.
