BEST BET: Oakfield Caesar (T5, 8.38 Romford)

NEXT BEST: Romeo Desperado (T1, 9.44 Romford)

TREBLE: Chopchop Hope (T5, 7.51 Romford)

By Richard Wilson

Chopchop Hope (T5) was unfortunate enough to bump into the classy Headford Kev over course and distance last week and that looks like form worth following at 7.51.

He couldn’t quite hold on there, but his early pace to beat that rival to the first bend was remarkably impressive, and a repeat may well suffice for this Ballymac Vic dog.

Knockard Spring is chasing a three-timer and will pose a threat for Kevin Boon in the blue jacket, but his overall form doesn’t look quite as strong and the selection might be open to slightly more improvement.

Roswell Romanov is often far too short for competitive Friday night races at this venue, and Mark Wallis’ charge looks worth taking on once more with the classy Romeo Desperado (T1) in the line-up at 9.44.

Deemed good enough to run in the £2,000 British Bred Stakes on Derby night at Towcester, he was never going to have much of a winning chance against the talented King Turbo.

The January ’15 dog was far from disgraced on that occasion in third, and a repeat of that level of performance may well suffice against this far more modest list of opponents.

The best bet of the night could be Oakfield Caesar (T5), who missed the break in the Gold Collar heats at Crayford on Tuesday when fancied to go well in the outright competition after his 2016 second.

The three-year-old is clearly seen to be in fine fettle to be turned back out so quickly, and the seven-time course winner can claim a first success since April now upped to 575m at 8.38.
