Day four report

Joaquin Niemann became the first Chilean to win on the PGA Tour as he claimed the A Military Tribute title at the Greenbrier in West Virginia by six shots.

The 20-year-old took a two-stroke lead into the final round and barely faltered as he secured victory with a six-under-par 64.

An emotional Niemann, who at 20 years, 10 months and eight days, is younger than both Seve Ballasteros and Rory McIlroy when they won their first Tour titles, told Sky Sports: "It's just amazing.

"I've been thinking about this my whole life since I started playing golf, so it's unbelievable. I still can't realise what happened today. I just need to calm down a little bit and just celebrate.

"It's just crazy. I'm really happy for all the support, my family, my coach. It's just crazy."

American Tom Hoge's 65 secured second place after compatriot Richy Werenski bogeyed the last hole and had to make do with a share of third with compatriots Brian Harman, Harris English and Nate Lashley.

Niemann carded birdies at the fifth and eight and although he dropped a shot at the ninth, he picked up three in the next four holes to get to 19 under.

Four ahead of the field with four to play, he hit a wayward tee shot at the 15th and saw his lead eroded slightly by a bogey four, only to restore his advantage with a solid birdie putt at the 16th.

Both Niemann and playing partner Werenski found greenside bunkers with their second shots at the par-five 17th, but the former recovered to card a four while the latter two-putted to slip a shot further back. The Chilean then finished in style with a lengthy putt for a two at the last to cap a comprehensive victory.

Down the field, Norwegian Viktor Hovland's 64, his 17th consecutive sub-70 round on the tour, was enough to claim a share of 10th place.

Day three report

Chilean Joaquin Niemann will take a two shot lead into the final round in the A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Niemann stayed top after the third round by carding a 68, picking up one shot on the front nine and another with a lengthy putt on the 10th.

A dropped shot on the par four 11th was the only blot on his copy book.

The chasing pack all sit on 13-under for the tournament and include Americans Richy Werenski and Nate Lashley who both moved 10 places up on the leaderboard after rounds of 65.

They are joined by former leader Robby Shelton who mixed three birdies and three bogeys for par.

Kevin Chappell, who became the 11th player in PGA Tour history to shoot a sub-60 round, could not follow up his Friday heroics: his 73 seeing him drop 24 places to tied-29th.

Day two report

Kevin Chappell became the 11th player in PGA Tour history to shoot a sub-60 round with an 11-under-par 59 in the A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Chappell, playing his first PGA Tour event for 10 months after having back surgery last November, missed an 11-foot putt on the 18th.

Had the putt gone in he would have equalled the lowest round of 58 on the PGA Tour - shot by Jim Furyk at the Travelers Championship in 2016.

"I couldn't be happier where I'm at or more proud of myself in what I did," Chappell said on Sky Sports.

"Ten months ago I was on the couch and couldn't walk. So many people had a lot to do with getting me out here and getting me competitive.

"I haven't accomplished anything yet, there's a long weekend ahead, but this is a step in the right direction.

"I never stopped believing but it's nice to have the evidence and move forward."

Californian Chappell tied Mark Calcavecchia's PGA Tour record of nine consecutive birdies in moving to within three shots of tournament leaders Scottie Scheffler, Joaquin Niemann and Robby Shelton.

Scheffler, in just his second round as a PGA Tour member, and Niemann had shot 62s with first-round leader Shelton firing a 65.

Adam Long is one further back on 12-under at the halfway stage.

Scotland's Martin Laird had a 68 to for a six-under total of 134, two shots inside the cut.

But Ireland's Seamus Power missed the cut by one stroke after a second-round 69.

Day one report:

Robby Shelton has taken a two stroke first round lead in the A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

The American carded an eight-under 62, followed by five fellow countrymen who went round in 64. Starting on the back nine, Shelton picked up four shots and dropped one on the par three-18th before stringing together three consecutive birdies on the front nine.

The chasing group includes Scott Harrington, making his long-awaited debut as a PGA Tour member at the age of 38.

Defending champion Kevin Na, Lanto Griffin, Mark Hubbard and Zack Sucher joined Harrington on six-under. Scotland's Martin Laird finished the day on four-under, while Ireland's Seamus Power carded two-under.
