Day four report

Rory McIlroy came close, but the Genesis Open crown ultimately belonged to JB Holmes on a dramatic final day in California.

The Northern Irishman handled inclement conditions and rose into second with Justin Thomas late on Sunday afternoon, but he slipped back into fourth by the close of play.

American Holmes rallied from a from a four-shot deficit as the weather-blighted tournament drew to a close.

He picked up two shots and dropped one on the way out before carding a birdie and a bogey as he headed back to the club house.

The one-under 70 saw him at 14 under for the tournament, one shot ahead of Thomas who had led for a time, and sealed his fifth PGA win.

McIlroy carded a 69 to finish on 11 under overall, while further down the leaderboard Tiger Woods tied 15th after carding 72 (six under overall) and Englishmen Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood finished tied 25 and tied 28th respectively (five and four under).

Day three report

Justin Thomas took a one-shot lead over Adam Scott as play was suspended at the rain-delayed Genesis Open.

The American finished the final six holes of his second round on Saturday, carding a six-under 65, and managed two holes of his third round before the day's play was ended due to darkness.

After mixing eight birdies and two bogeys in round two, Thomas was tied at the top with Scott on 11 under.

But the former world number one started his next round by rolling in a 13-footer for eagle at the par-five 1st hole to take an edge over his rival.

Australian Scott could only manage a birdie, and finished the day on 12 under through two holes.

Patrick Rodgers, tied with JB Holmes for third, completed a 67 before also opening with an eagle to sit two shots behind Thomas.

Paul Casey and Rory McIlroy improved on their opening rounds - carding second rounds of 66 and 63 respectively - and are both on eight under heading into the final day.

Tiger Woods' second-round 71 - which included a birdie on the final hole - was enough to make the cut, and he started his third with three birdies and an eagle to scale the leaderboard and sit on six under.

The 76 players who made the cut now face a marathon session on Sunday as the delay to the start of the tournament continues to have a knock-on effect.

No one had completed the third round before play was suspended, with the action set to resume at 6.45am local time (2.45pm GMT).

Day two report

Justin Thomas and Adam Scott are tied at the top of the Genesis Open leaderboard - but both failed to complete their second round in California.

Play was suspended at just before 5.30pm on Friday due to darkness with none of the 144 players able to complete 18 holes.

The overnight leader Jordan Spieth was not able to start his second round, which left Thomas and Scott to take the joint lead.

The American Thomas carded an opening 66 and had a five-birdie stretch bookended by bogeys on his way to five under for the day after 12 holes.

Scott went through 11 on five under, with the only blot on his book a bogey on the par-five 17th.

A number of players were not able to start their first round until day two at Pacific Palisades, with JB Holmes going round in 63 for the best score of the opening round.

Play will resume at 7am local time (3pm GMT), with Holmes currently in third - a shot behind the leading pair through nine holes - while Luke List is tied for fourth on seven under through 15.

Last week's Pebble Beach champion Phil Mickelson struggled with his form, failing to pick up a single shot for an opening 71, good enough for a share of 90th place.

Tiger Woods finished a round of 70 and is on par through 12 holes, having sunk a 44-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 first, but then bogeying the next two holes.

Day one report

The American was sitting at five under par through 12 holes before the severely delayed opening round was suspended for the day due to fading light.

The round had earlier been suspended due to wet conditions, just 50 minutes into the start. Only 30 players had teed off, and the decision was made to scrap their scores and restart the tournament later that afternoon.

Spieth was among those who had taken to the course early on Thursday and had struggled on the opening holes but, after the round was restarted, the 25-year-old made the most of his second chance.

Five birdies, including on three par-five holes, earned him a share of the top spot with Sung Kang.

Kang posted a bogey, four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 11th to sit at five under through 14 holes.

Patrick Rodgers and Jimmy Walker are a shot further back in joint third, having completed 13 and 10 holes respectively, while Tony Finau and JT Poston are on three under through 12 and nine holes.

Last week's Pebble Beach champion Phil Mickelson struggled with his form, making 11 pars and one bogey to sit one over after 12 holes.

Tiger Woods was among several players yet to even start their opening round.
