Bahrain Grand Prix: Kimi Raikkonen top in third practice session

Defending champion Lewis Hamilton finished outside the top three for the third consecutive practice session as Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen continued to set the pace ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Hamilton will be penalised with a five-place grid penalty following an unscheduled gearbox change on his Mercedes, and, on the evidence of practice at least, faces starting the race from the middle of the pack.

The British driver was only fifth and fourth fastest in Friday's two sessions, and he ended Saturday's final running in fourth place again following a scruffy lap in which he ran wide at the final corner.

Hamilton finished the best part of nine-tenths of a second adrift of Raikkonen, who followed up his impressive showing in the opening sessions on Friday by leading the way once more at the Sakhir circuit.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen was second, half a second slower than Raikkonen. Verstappen's team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was third quickest.

Sebastian Vettel, who leads the championship by virtue of his season-opening victory in Australia a fortnight ago, finished fifth, one spot ahead of Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.

The Renault duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz, Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and McLaren driver Fernando Alonso completed the top 10.
