Our F1 Insider is backing Fernando Alonso for another big home display as we look ahead to the Spanish Grand Prix.
Raikkonen has always been a match for his team-mates around the Circuit de Cataunya, winning the race from pole position in 2005 and 2008, and outqualifying and outracing current Ferrari partner Sebastian Vettel in 2016. The Scuderia will probably be the team to beat on Saturday and the former champion looks better value to head the grid than Vettel, even if circumstances may prove to conspire against him on Sunday.
Alonso is a national hero in his home country and always digs deep to find a special performance in front of a Montmelo sell-out crowd. He has enjoyed mixed fortunes so far this season but manfully wrestled his wounded McLaren-Renault to seventh place last time out in Azerbaijan to extend his run of points-scoring races in 2018. With a fair wind at his back Alonso can go one better than Baku and repeat his top-six finish from the season-opener in Australia.
