World Cup permutations: Who will go through to the last 16 after final group games?

World Cup giants Brazil and Germany fight for their place in the knockouts on Wednesday but it's by no means a done deal - find out how they and the rest of today's teams can make the last 16.

Brazil and Germany were expected to make smooth progress into the last 16, but it's been anything but up to now, and both could realistically go out.

We look at how each remaining group will be decided.

Group E

Group E table
Switzerland could still top Brazil in Group E

Fixtures:

Scenario: Brazil would be safely through with a win or a draw against Serbia and will top the group unless Switzerland better their result, or match it with a better goal margin - the Selecao's goal difference is currently one better. A draw with already-eliminated Costa Rica would be enough for Switzerland and defeat could still see them qualify if Serbia also lose. A win would take Serbia through and a draw could be enough if Switzerland lose by two.

Group odds (To win/qualify): Brazil 4/9 | 1/12 / Switzerland 9/4 | 1/50 / Serbia 12/1 | 11/2

Predicted finish: (Sky Bet odds 100/30)

  1. Switzerland
  2. Brazil
  3. Serbia
  4. Costa Rica

Group F

Group F in the World Cup
Germany were almost out but now fancied to make it through Group F

Fixtures:

Another complicated group where even bottom side South Korea could still go through. Mexico need only a draw against Sweden on Wednesday while a win would see them top the group with maximum points. Germany need to at least match Sweden's result. Draws in both games would see qualification determined by goals scored. Identical records would then see qualification decided by the better result when the teams met, which would see Germany go through courtesy of their 2-1 win.

Group odds (To win/qualify): Mexico 4/11 | 2/9 / Germany 4/1 | 1/8 / Sweden 13/2 | 15/8 / Korea (qualify) 28/1

Predicted finish: (Sky Bet odds: 4/9)

  1. Mexico
  2. Germany
  3. Sweden
  4. South Korea

Group G

Group G at the World Cup
Will England or Belgium win Group G at the World Cup?

Fixtures:

England and Belgium will battle it out for group honours on Thursday after a 6-1 victory against Panama saw Gareth Southgate's men make it two wins from as many matches. With Belgium also winning their first two matches both teams are on six points and with identical records on goal difference and goals scored. A draw in the final group game would see the leaders decided by fair play rules - England lead on that criteria by virtue of two yellow cards to Belgium's three - or by drawing of lots.

Group odds (winner): England 8/11 / Belgium 11/10

Predicted finish: (Sky Bet odds: 5/4)

  1. England
  2. Belgium
  3. Tunisia
  4. Panama

Group H

Group H at the World Cup
Unfancied Japan in control of Group H but who'll join them?

Fixtures:

Japan need only draw with Poland, who have been eliminated, to progress to the next round. Senegal and Colombia play off with the winner qualifying, while a draw will be enough for the African side.

Group odds (To win/qualify): Japan 11/8 | 1/8 / Colombia 2/1 | 8/13 / Senegal 9/4 | 8/11

Predicted finish: (Sky Bet odds: 100/30)

  1. Japan
  2. Senegal
  3. Colombia
  4. Poland
