Wednesday's Premier League round-up: Man City beat Bournemouth, Tottenham win at Newcastle, Burnley deny Wolves

Manchester City were made to work hard for victory over Bournemouth, Burnley denied Wolves in the 96th minute and Tottenham were winners at Newcastle - we round-up Wednesday's early matches in the Premier League.

City battle past Cherries

Superb first-half goals from David Silva and Gabriel Jesus were just about enough for Manchester City to beat a Bournemouth side who were unlucky to leave the Etihad empty-handed.

After David Brooks' last-minute goal both Calum Wilson and Jefferson Lerma went close to snatching what would have been a deserved point for Eddie Howe's relegation-battling side.

But defeat means they stay third from bottom and two points behind West Ham and Watford, who play each other in their game in hand on Friday.

When Silva curled in a wicked free-kick after just six minutes it seemed as though City would coast to victory.

But Jesus' strike just before the break came against the run of play, and after half-time Bournemouth continued to take on Pep Guardiola's team.

Unfortunately for the Cherries they failed to take their chances until it was just too late.

Wolves denied at the death

Chris Wood's 96th-minute penalty snatched a point for Burnley and boosted their hopes of securing a place in next season's Europa League.

When Raul Jimenez volleyed home his 17th Premier League goal of the season with only 14 minutes left, Wolves looked like keeping their own race to clinch Champions League qualification very much alive.

But with time running out and after a long VAR check, that could just as easily have seen Wood penalised for a high foot as Matt Doherty for handball, Wood stepped up to rifle into the roof of the net.

The result takes the Clarets - who are now unbeaten in six matches - on to 51 points, five adrift of sixth-placed Wolves.

Nuno's side must now rely on other results if they are to finish in the top four.

Kane reaches milestone in Spurs win

Harry Kane scored the 200th goal of his club career as Tottenham battled to victory over Newcastle at St James' Park and kept themselves well in the race for European football.

Son Heung-min's low shot midway through the first half put Spurs ahead but a brilliant strike from Matt Ritchie even things up before the second-half drinks break.

Kane's milestone goal almost immediately restored Tottenham's lead as he headed home at the back post, and with Newcastle pushing hard for a late equaliser the England captain added his second by heading in on the rebound.

Jose Mourinho's side are now seventh, a point behind Wolves after their draw at Burnley.
