Canaries back on top

Delight for Norwich City boss Daniel Farke after their win at Millwall
Delight for Norwich City boss Daniel Farke after their win at Millwall

Norwich fired themselves back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table by seeing off strugglers Millwall 3-1.

Goals from Marco Stiepermann, Christoph Zimmermann and Teemu Pukki saw the on-song Canaries regain top spot from rivals Leeds, who hammered play-off contenders West Brom 4-0 on Friday night.

Daniel Farke's league leaders secured their third win on the bounce and their fifth in six games as Millwall were condemned to back-to-back defeats at the Den for the first time since October 2016.

While Norwich made it a hat-trick of wins, Neil Harris' outfit have now lost their last three.

The Lions' recent dip in form leaves them tottering precariously above the dreaded drop zone - just a point above the bottom three.

Grealish stars on Villa return as Derby continue to struggle

A Jack Grealish-inspired Aston Villa romped to a 4-0 win over injury-hit Derby, who slumped to their 11th defeat in 12 games at Villa Park.

The talented youngster, who gave a 70-minute cameo performance, was in outstanding form on his return to first-team duty and marked Villa's easy success and his own quality display with a brilliant goal from 25 yards.

Villa completely dominated the game, sealing their success when they ran riot in the first half, with two Conor Hourihane goals and one each from Tammy Abraham and Grealish.

The belated return of the latter, which was marked with the talented youngster being named as Villa's captain, produced an immediate improvement as demonstrated by their first-half onslaught.

Villa had won just two of their 13 games without Grealish but completed a well-deserved double over the Rams, who slipped to their third successive defeat.

Bowen brace keeps Tigers on track

Jarrod Bowen scored twice as Hull boosted their Sky Bet Championship play-off hopes with a 2-0 win over fellow contenders Birmingham at the KCOM Stadium.

Bowen opened the scoring in the first half when he fired into the roof of the net from close range before winning and converting a penalty just before the hour mark.

Birmingham rarely threatened, with their best chances falling to Che Adams who shot into the side-netting before substitute Jacques Maghoma saw his shot saved late on.

Forest hopes dashed

Peter Etebo and Benik Afobe fired Stoke to a 2-0 victory over play-off chasing Nottingham Forest and end a six-match winless run in the Sky Bet Championship.

Midfielder Etebo opened the scoring after 15 minutes at the bet365 Stadium when he guided in a low shot following a well-worked counter-attack.

The goal, which was the 23-year-old's first for Stoke since his arrival from Las Palmas last summer, was added to by Afobe's fine 74th-minute finish, wrapping up a professional performance from Nathan Jones' men on a crisp afternoon in Staffordshire.

Maupay helps Bees sting west London rivals

Neal Maupay scored one and assisted another as Brentford kept their slim play-off hopes alive with a 3-0 victory against QPR at Griffin Park.

The first half was a drab affair as both sides were struggling to string to passes together.

However, Thomas Frank's men got their noses in front soon after the break when Maupay converted from the spot after Ollie Watkins was bundled over.

Maupay, Brentford's top scorer, showed good awareness to pick out Said Benrahma who made the points safe, before Sergi Canos netted with virtually the last kick of the game.

Survival boost for Millers

Rotherham boosted their chances of survival in the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-2 victory over Blackburn.

It was the Millers' first win since New Year's Day - a run stretching back nine matches - and ensured they stayed in touch with the teams above them despite remaining in the bottom three.

Two goals from Semi Ajayi sandwiched Ryan Williams' effort to end Rotherham's run of five draws on the bounce.

Amari'i Bell and Charlie Mulgrew replied for Rovers but their winless streak now stands at six.

Royals leave it late at relegation rivals

Reading substitute Modou Barrow's stoppage-time goal condemned strugglers Ipswich to a 2-1 defeat.

The battle of the basement clubs was billed as a must-win game for the Tractor Boys and they are now 12 points adrift of safety.

Norwich loanee Nelson Oliveira opened the scoring for The Royals in the 19th minute with Gwion Edwards replying for Ipswich in the 83rd.

But the sting in the tail came from Barrow who was sent clear following a late break by Reading to beat Ipswich keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

More woe for Bolton

Oli McBurnie and Bersant Celina struck late as Swansea beat nine-man Bolton 2-0 to dent Wanderers' hopes of Championship survival.

Craig Noone and David Wheater both saw red as the visitors battled hard to secure a draw at the Liberty Stadium.

But Swansea striker McBurnie netted his 18th goal of the season with less than 10 minutes remaining before Celina found the top corner to punish Bolton's indiscipline and leave them seven points from safety.

Play-off hopefuls draw at Deepdale

Famara Diedhiou hit a late equaliser as play-off chasing Bristol City rescued a vital point from a 1-1 draw at Preston.

The Robins, who are firmly in the Sky Bet Championship promotion mix, trailed at the break thanks to Daniel Johnson's goal, following a lacklustre display by the visitors.

However, City managed to get up a head of steam around the hour mark as they began to finally test Declan Rudd and get a foothold in the game.

And they were finally rewarded when Diedhiou pounced on a loose ball from a corner in the 68th minute.

It could have been even better for the visitors but for a brilliant save from Rudd to keep out Antoine Semenyo with nine minutes to go.

Preston were bottom of the league at the start of October, but a run of just four defeats in 25 matches since has taken them to within six points of the top six - and they showed just why against City.

DW stalemate

Sky Bet Championship strugglers Wigan and promotion chasers Middlesbrough cancelled each other out in a stalemate at the DW Stadium.

Middlesbrough were almost ahead inside three minutes, Ashley Fletcher taking delivery of a long ball and getting goalside of Chey Dunkley, only for the big centre-back to time his sliding challenge to perfection.

If that was an escape for Wigan, there was an even more obvious bullet dodged shortly after, when Britt Assombalonga somehow missed a completely open goal from two yards out.

Fletcher pulled his shot across goal into the path of his colleague, but the big man failed to move his feet quickly enough and could only watch in horror as the ball rolled across goal and past the far post.
