Arsenal latest

As Arsenal secured the signing of defensive target Sokratis Papastathopoulos on Monday, the Gunners were dealt a blow as reported target Yacine Adli has signed a new deal with Unai Emery's former club, PSG.

In more promising news for the north Londoners, who have been busy in the transfer market so far, Lucas Torreira will have a medical with the Gunners after Uruguay's participation in the World Cup is over, according to his father.

“I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him,” Ricardo told Radio Crc as quoted by Football Italia.

“It’s not done, neither is it official, because he hasn’t signed anything, but there’s a great chance that Lucas’ future will be in England.

“There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.”

Uruguay face France in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Prem moves off for De Vrij and Lewandowski

Manchester United-linked Stefan De Vrij has joined Inter Milan on a free transfer from Lazio. The centre-half made 36 Serie A appearances for Lazio last season, scoring six times.

New Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac, presented to the media this lunchtime, says he expects Robert Lewandowski (below) to stay at Bayern Munich.

The Poland striker is 5/2 with Sky Bet to join Real Madrid this summer, while Chelsea (4/1) and Man United (5/1) have also been strongly linked, but Kovac said: “Nothing new about Robert Lewandowski.

"I called him and gave him my point of view. I look forward to having him in the team. He is a great player, a world-class striker who has done a lot for the club and will do a lot in the future."

Foster to return to Watford?

Watford in talks with West Brom over the signing of goalkeeper Ben Foster (below), according to Sky Sports sources.

Foster refused to travel with the rest of the squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal last week. He has one year left on his contract and had two season long loan spells with Watford in 2005/06 & 2006/07.The fee could be up to £3m.

Not ideal start for Vieira

Patrick Vieira's coaching career at Nice has got off to a rocky start, with strikers Mario Balotelli and Alassane Plea failing to show up for the first day of pre-season training Monday.

Balotelli top scored for Nice last season with 18 goals, while Plea netted 16. Both have been linked with moves away from the club this summer, with Premier League West Ham reportedly keen on signing Plea and Balotelli a target for French league rival Marseille.

Vieira said: "We were supposed to have all the players (available). Unfortunately, those two weren't there. We're trying to get to the bottom of it."

Balotelli is 8/11 with Sky Bet to join Marseille this summer, 4/1 to go to Napoli and 10/1 to join Dortmund.

Schmeichel attracting interest after World Cup efforts

Sky sources say Chelsea and Roma interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Both will need to buy new No 1s if they sell Courtois and Alisson this summer.

He is 3/1 with Sky Bet to join Chelsea this summer, 5/1 Roma with Liverpool 8/1 and Juventus 16/1.

Benjamin Pavard is staying at Stuttgart, according to their sporting director.

Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports that the Tottenham transfer target, who scored a stunning goal in France's last 16 win over Argentina on Saturday, will not be available even for '50 million euros' as the German club look to hang onto the 22-year-old for another year.
