Bayern Munich 3-0 Celtic: Scottish champions defeated

Celtic suffered a 3-0 drubbing in their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The German giants had replaced Carlo Ancelotti with Jupp Heynckes following their 3-0 Group B defeat by Paris St Germain last month but any thoughts of demise were swept away as skipper Thomas Muller opened the scoring in the 17th minute before right-back Joshua Kimmich nodded in a second before half-time.

Mats Hummels headed in a third six minutes after the break and the Bundesliga champions were unfortunate their dominance was not properly reflected in the scoreline.

Celtic's 3-0 win away to Anderlecht in September means they are favourites to at least end up with a Europa League place after Christmas but they were simply outclassed by the Bundesliga side.

Bayern are a Sky Bet Price Boost at 15/2 to win the Champions League!

Celtic are now odds-on at 1/16 with the online bookmaker to go out in the group stage.

Post-match reaction

Celtic captain Scott Brown wants the club's passionate fans to scare Bayern Munich when they meet the German side again in two weeks in the Champions League.

He told BT Sport ESPN: "It's always different back at Celtic Park with our fans there. Hopefully our fans give them a fright. Hopefully we can get an early goal."

Brown admitted Celtic had expected a tough clash in Germany, with the defeat leaving them third in their group table behind Paris St Germain and Bayern.

Brown added: "It was a hard game, it was always going to be hard coming across here. They are a top quality side.

"(In the) second half we tried to play our game. We always try and play our own game, we always try and press.

"We tried to put them under pressure. It's mentally tough but you've got to keep working hard."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said he hoped to see better defending from his players when the teams meet again.

"We hope that we can be better in terms of dealing with crosses," he said.

The Celtic boss added: "I just felt in the goals we could have been better in those moments."

However, Rodgers was able to take some positives from the game.

He said: "I thought there were lots of moments in the game where we looked comfortable. We had moments in counter-attack and some other good moments in the game. I thought second half we were much better."
