There is money in the Turf Moor pot after the sales of Michael Keane and Andre Gray for a combined figure of nearly £50million, but their modest budget means that they cannot throw money at players like other teams in the league.

The Clarets have reportedly been rebuffed in attempts to sign Hull midfielder Sam Clucas and Leeds striker Chris Wood so far.

Clucas is now 9/1 to join the Lancashire side, while Leeds' Chris Wood is is 2/5 with Sky Bet to transfer to Turf Moor.

The Portugal international is understood to want a move to the Premier League and has a £40milliion release clause in his contract.
