Nathan Jones: Former Luton Town manager appointed as new manager of Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City

Stoke City have appointed former Luton Town manager Nathan Jones as their new boss to replace Gary Rowett.

The 45-year-old is confirmed as the man to succeed Gary Rowett, who was sacked on Tuesday following a disappointing start to the season.

Jones had attracted a lot of attention for his achievements at Luton - getting them promotion from League Two and then getting them up into second place in League One over Christmas.

The Potters are slumped in 14th in the Sky Bet Championship table after being relegated from the Premier League last season, with just eight wins in 26 league outings costing Rowett his job.

Stoke confirmed the news with a statement on their website praising Jones for his time at Luton and saying he impressed when meeting them over the prospect of taking the job.

“Nathan is an incredibly driven and passionate individual and we are delighted to have secured his services for Stoke City," said a Stoke statement from John Coates and Peter Coates.

“We have been following Nathan’s career for sometime and when we met him were hugely impressed with his clear vision as to how he will achieve success at Stoke.”

Performances in December were so impressive that Jones has been nominated for the division's Manager of the Month award - with the winner announced on Friday.
