Graham Potter handed Swansea City reins

Swansea have named Graham Potter as their new manager.

Potter, 43, has signed a three-year contract after leaving Swedish club Ostersunds and will bid to guide the recently-relegated Welsh club back to the Premier League.

"Swansea City are delighted to announce that Graham Potter has been appointed as the club's new manager," read a club statement on their official website.

"Potter has (on Monday) signed a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium after leaving Swedish club Ostersunds to take charge of the Swans."

The sponsors make Swansea 9/1 to win the Sky Bet Championship and 100/30 to secure an immediate return to the top flight by any means.

The Swans confirmed they agreed a compensation package with Ostersunds for Potter, plus assistant Billy Reid and recruitment specialist Kyle Macaulay last week.

"The trio have now completed the paperwork on their moves to SA1, and will start work at their new club ahead of the 2018-19 Championship season, which kicks off in early August," the club added.

Englishman Potter, who represented the likes of West Brom, Stoke and Birmingham during his playing days, took over Ostersunds in December 2010 and guided them from the fourth tier to the top division in Sweden.

Ostersund also won the Swedish Cup in 2017 to qualify for last season's Europa League, reaching the last 32 before losing 4-2 on aggregate to Arsenal.

Potter succeeds Carlos Carvalhal at the Liberty Stadium, with the Portuguese leaving the club after relegation had been confirmed on the final day of last season.
