Manchester United are reportedly considering handing out lyric sheets to fans in an attempt to improve Old Trafford atmosphere

Manchester United are reportedly considering handing out lyric sheets to fans in an attempt to improve the atmosphere at Old Trafford.

The move is set to come after United boss Jose Mourinho complaining about the atmosphere on several occasions since taking over at the club.

The Times reports that 'Club officials accept that the atmosphere is not good enough and they have asked fans to come up with ways to make Old Trafford noisier'.

Following the 2-0 home victory over Old Trafford, where Alexis Sanchez scored his first goal for the club, Mourinho said: "He (Sanchez) played only three (matches) and the first at Old Trafford, and I think Old Trafford, in spite of being a quiet stadium, the pitch is big, the grass is nice and obviously the players feel very comfortable playing here."

  • Tottenham - 2/1
  • Manchester United - 5/2
  • Southampton - 12/1

Mourinho expanded by stating: "It's not Portsmouth. I remember Portsmouth - such a small stadium, the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. In here, the atmosphere is a bit quiet and there is not very (much enthusiasm). But the players like to play at home."

The FA Cup remains the club's only available trophy to win this season. Mourinho's men crashed out of the Champions League with defeat to Sevilla and sit 16 points behind rivals Manchester City in the race for the Premier League.

They did introduce a singing section in the north-east corner of the ground but it has not made a significant improvement.

Lyrics sheets are just one of a number of avenues that are reportedly being considered, with lyrics printed into the matchday programme also a future possibility.
