Manchester United transfer news: Romelu Lukaku reportedly moving to Inter Milan & now odds-on to join Serie A side

Romelu Lukaku is odds-on to swap Manchester United for Inter Milan after growing reports in Italy suggest he will be the first target of prospective new manager Antonio Conte.

Former Chelsea boss Conte is expected to replace Luciano Spalletti at Inter next week, and his top two targets are thought to be Lukaku and fellow ex-Blues man Victor Moses.

Conte tried to sign Lukaku whilst still at Stamford Bridge when the Belgian opted to move to Old Trafford from Everton, but despite scoring 42 goals in 96 games for the Red Devils he does not look like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first choice up front.

Lukaku himself has also previously spoken of his desire to one day play in Italy - being quoted by Sky Italia's Lords of Football as saying: "Playing in Serie A is a dream, it would be really a dream.

"I hope to be able to play sooner or later, even if at the moment I am focused on the United."

Lukaku was one of the players to take the most criticism when the club failed under Jose Mourinho, and even under Solskjaer he's not been able to turn some critics around.

He's still managed to score goals but his work rate and his ability to score against the bigger teams have both been consistently questioned throughout his United career.

Solskjaer has said he needs to do a huge rebuilding job and if United's board aren't willing to simply hand over a blank cheque then he'll need to drum up some transfer funds from selling off players he feels have no future.

Given the nature of United's dip in form towards the end of the season, it's clear that the entire culture of the dressing room needs changing and almost a bigger job for Solskjaer than bringing players in is shipping the right players out - and Lukaku certainly seems to be high on the list for departures.

Manchester United transfer ins and outs

David De Gea: Reportedly turned down a contract offer - and the Spanish keeper is Evens to join PSG.

Paul Pogba: Solskjaer wants to make him his captain to try and spark him into life, but he's 4/5 to to join Real Madrid.

Jadon Sancho: United lead the chase for the England star as the 2/1 favourites to sign him from Dortmund.

Gareth Bale: Solskajer is 8/15 favourite to bring the Welshman back to the Premier League and end his misery in Real Madrid.

Sean Longstaff: The Newcastle midfielder is 5/6 to move to Old Trafford but the Magpies will dig their heels in.

Dan James: Talks are progressing and the Swansea winger looks set to move to Man Utd at sooner or later.
