Nottingham Forest: Chris Hughton replaces Sabri Lamouchi as boss

Chris Hughton has been named Nottingham Forest boss after Sabri Lamouchi became the first Sky Bet Championship managerial casualty of the season.

The appointment of former Brighton and Newcastle boss Hughton was confirmed just minutes after the club announced Lamouchi’s dismissal.

Hughton, 61, has been out of work since leaving Brighton in May 2019 and had been linked with Watford and Bristol City over the summer.

A club statement read: “Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hughton as the club’s new manager.

“Hughton joins the club with a wealth of managerial experience, leading both Newcastle United and Brighton to promotion from the Championship and going on to establish both teams in the Premier League.”

Forest sit third-bottom in the table with zero points on their tally. In four games, Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Bristol City was the first time they've found the net.

Lamouchi looked to have guided The East Midlands side to the play-offs last season before a final day collapse saw them finish seventh in dramatic circumstances. A 4-1 home defeat to Stoke led to them missing out.

A victory over Leeds in February moved Forest to within a point of the automatic promotion spots, but they managed to win just three of their 15 games after.

In a very short statement, the club said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that the contract of head coach Sabri Lamouchi has been terminated with immediate effect."

In an attempt to improve on last season, Lamouchi oversaw the arrival of 13 new first team players in the summer with nine departing the City Ground.

Qatari side Al Duhail are reportedly considering a move for Lamouchi, who managed El Jaish between 2014 and 2017.

He became the second Championship boss to leave on Tuesday after Gerhard Struber quit his role at Barnsley to join New York Red Bulls in the MLS.
