Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool boss praises massive win at Cardiff that put Reds on record Premier League points haul

Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool's win at Cardiff as "massive" as they reached a record Premier League points tally to keep the pressure on Man City.

The 2-0 victory at Cardiff means they have a two-point advantage over title rivals Manchester City, who have a game in hand coming up on Wednesday when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Reds have also set a new club-record points tally in the Premier League, reaching 88 and passing the total of 86 set in 2009.

Reflecting on a ninth successive win in all competitions, Klopp said: "It's really massive. It was not a game for a little bit playing around.

"It was a game for a 100 per cent fight, a battle of will, who wants it more, and difficult circumstances - circumstances that were all a bit in favour for the team who doesn't have the ball that often.

"In the end, we will see how many points we have and then we get what we get.

"We will see what comes out of that game on Wednesday (between Manchester United and Manchester City), but we still have games after that. If United get a point and we go to Newcastle next weekend thinking we have it, then we could get knocked there.

"We just have to stay focused on our things. That is what has worked so well so far, and there is no reason we should change that."

Pressure on City for derby game

Although Klopp says the points total is a great achievement, there are still more to play for and they may well yet fall short in their pursuit of a first Premier League title since 1990.

"In the end we will see how many points we have and then we get what we get," Klopp added.

"We are motivated to play for this club. We have no influence on the other games, it is how it is. Our next game is against Huddersfield, which will be difficult again for different reasons.

"Some people up in Liverpool might ask us if we are thinking about Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, we will be completely focused on Huddersfield.

"On Wednesday there is a game as well. When we played Manchester United they were in a much better moment than they are now and that was 0-0."
