Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal refused to confirm whether Fernando Forestieri would be involved against Sunderland on Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal refused to confirm whether Fernando Forestieri would be back involved against Sunderland on Wednesday after his latest misdemeanour.

The 27-year-old forward, who refused to play for the Owls at Norwich this time last year as he tried to force a move away from the club, was left out for Saturday's 1-1 Sky Bet Championship draw with QPR following a training-ground altercation with team-mate Sam Winnall.

It is understood that Forestieri reacted violently to a tackle from the striker and did not feature against Rangers as a result.

The incident comes not long after Forestieri also said that he does not enjoy playing on the left - a position in which he is often deployed by Carvalhal.

The Wednesday boss was not forthcoming on whether Forestieri would be back involved against the Black Cats, but did say he was training with the group.

"Fernando Forestieri was involved all the time," the Portuguese said when asked whether he was available for the visit of the Black Cats. "He is training with the team. I don't want to talk too much about that.

"It's a general situation and I explained things happen in football. We have rules, like the red card, like traffic rules when you do something you can't do.

"It's nothing different than what happens in other clubs. When we decide to play him he will play. If we don't decide to play him he won't play

"Fernando is training with the team, of course.

"There are rules. There is discipline here. We follow our rules. I don't want to talk about it too much because it is not a problem."

The Owls are chasing their first win of the season, having lost at Preston on the opening weekend before the draw against QPR, and are 11/10 favourites with Sky Bet to defeat the Black Cats on Wednesday.
