England squad speak to the media ahead of this summer's World Cup

The England World Cup squad have taken part in a media day at St. Georges' Park. Here are some of the quotes from those involved.

Harry Kane insists he is in peak condition for the World Cup after the FIFA website mistakenly listed his weight as 15-and-a-half stone.

The England captain says he is at his "fighting weight" for the tournament in Russia this month, around 89 or 90 kilos rather than the 96 kilos that FIFA stated.

"The lads came over to me yesterday afternoon and said my weight had been put at 96 kilos," Kane said at the England media day, broadcast on Sky Sports HQ.

"I don't know if it's been changed but I'm definitely not 15-and-a-half-stone.

"I'm normally about 89 or 90 kilos. We weigh most days when we get up and that's normally my fighting weight."

Kane says he is 100 per cent fit heading into the tournament after suffering a few injuries for Tottenham last season.

"I feel really good and training has been of a high intensity," he added.

"Obviously everyone is fighting for places and that has pushed everyone along fitness-wise.

"It's been a tough camp and that's what we all needed.

"It was good to get some minutes on the weekend and I'm fully refreshed."

Winger Raheem Sterling insists the criticism he has received for having a gun tattoo on his leg has not affected his preparation for the World Cup in Russia.

Sterling said the "unfinished" tattoo references the shooting of his father who was gunned down in Jamaica when the Manchester City striker was just two years of age.

The 23-year-old said the artwork is a reminder to him to "never touch a gun".

Sterling, however, has been accused by some of glamorising gun crime, although he said at England's World Cup media day that he was simply focused on training and was more concerned for the welfare of his family.

"(This week) it's not really been that tough," Sterling said in an interview broadcast on Sky Sports.

"Things happened and get spoken about, but I put that to one side.

"I've been focused on training and playing Nigeria, so for me it was a normal week to be honest.

"The only thing that changed was that I was in the newspapers a bit more.

"I just got on with my day. I spoke with my mum and she was OK. My daughter and my son are OK, I'm fine.

"That was the least of my worries. It's obviously bad to see yourself spoken of in that light, but it's not something that gets me down.

"I've got a World Cup to prepare for and I've had training sessions every day, so my mind was already occupied. That was the least of my worries."

Midfielder Fabian Delph will be taking a special delivery to the World Cup, after being surprised with a personalised box of his favourite tea.

The Bradford-born player revealed last month that he planned to bring a packet of Yorkshire Tea to Russia to help remind him of home, but had forgotten to bring a supply to a training camp at St George's Park.

The Harrogate-based brand were happy to help, sending a personalised box of bags to the 28-year-old during Tuesday's media open day at the national football centre.

Delph declared the gift "better than winning the title" and there was just as much excitement from team-mate Danny Rose.

The Tottenham left-back cast an envious eye at the box of 'Delph's Tea' and suggested the pair could enjoy a cup while watching reality show Love Island together.

There was also a box of decaffeinated bags for Delph's wife Natalie, who is due to give birth two days after England's final group match and two days before a possible last-16 clash.

Jordan Henderson is ready to put Champions League heartache behind him and get "straight back to business" at the World Cup.

Henderson captained Liverpool in their dramatic 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid - a game that saw two major goalkeeping gaffes from Loris Karius and a first-half injury to star man Mohamed Salah.

Henderson and team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold were granted extra time off before linking up with England as a result of their involvement and, while the memories of his night in Kiev are still raw, the midfielder is focused on the task at hand.

Having sat out Saturday's 2-1 Wembley win over Nigeria, Henderson will return to the Three Lions midfield when Costa Rica visit Elland Road for a farewell friendly on Thursday.

"It's been difficult over the last 10 days. It was hard to take," he said.

"I've had a little bit of time off and time with the family, which was important. It was good to get my head around it and have some down-time to refocus on what is important and that is the World Cup now.

"That is where the focus has got to be. I think it is a good thing, I get straight back to business.

"What's important is doing the best I can for the national team."

Dele Alli insists England are well prepared for the World Cup and the target is to "achieve greatness" in Russia.

The Three Lions play their final warm-up game against Costa Rica at Elland Road on Thursday before flying out to their base in Repino.

While Gareth Southgate's youthful squad are unlikely to be crushed by the weight of expectation experienced by previous players, Alli believes there is something special about the current crop.

"I don't think we can put limits on it, the sky is the limit," the Tottenham and England midfielder said when asked if the squad have set a target.

"We have a young, hungry team that wants to achieve greatness, we want to bring the country together and achieve something great.

"We have got some great players all over the field and great experienced players as well to help the younger ones.

"We are raring to go, we have been doing a lot of work, we play a lot of football and a lot of us have been playing professionally for a long time now.

"Growing up as a kid, these are the moments you dream of being a part of and we have an opportunity to do that."
