Celtic complete eighth successive Scottish Premiership title with win while Kilmarnock finish third under Steve Clarke

Celtic rounded off their eighth straight Scottish Premiership title-winning season with a win while Kilmarnock secured third place with victory over Rangers.

Mikey Johnston scored both Celtic goals as they saw off Hearts 2-1 at Parkhead.

The champions were given a much-appreciated guard of honour by Hearts before the game at the request of the visitors.

There was then a minute's applause before the game in tribute to Lisbon Lion Stevie Chalmers who died recently.

With a view to next week's William Hill Scottish Cup final between the two clubs at Hampden Park - where a Hoops victory will secure an unprecedented domestic treble treble - both sides were much-changed for the final day of the league season.

Amid a celebratory trophy-day atmosphere fringe player Johnston fired in the opener with less than two minutes played but that was cancelled out in the 17th minute by Hearts winger Jake Mulraney.

Neil Lennon replaced Oliver Burke with highly-rated 16-year-old debutant attacker Karamoko Dembele for the start of the second half and he showed plenty of promise, but with six minutes remaining it was Johnston who stepped up with a terrific run and drive to seal the win.

Clarke's Killie claim third & European spot

Steve Clarke is set to leave Kilmarnock with a farewell gift of a third-place finish in the Ladbrokes Premiership after Eamonn Brophy's late penalty sealed a 2-1 win over Rangers at Rugby Park.

With the Killie boss expected to be named the new Scotland manager this week, Clarke was hoping to leave on the back of the Ayrshire outfit's highest league finish since 1966.

And Clarke - watching from the stands after receiving a ban for criticising referee Steven McLean - got his wish as Brophy drilled home from the spot in the 89th-minute.

The hosts got off to a perfect start when Chris Burke fired home against his old side only for Alfredo Morelos to turn up the tension with his 30th goal of the season - and his 10th against Killie - midway through the second half.

But Brophy kept his nerve late on to ensure his team - with or without Clarke - will be heading abroad for their first European adventure in 18 years next term.

They earned the final automatic Europa League spot ahead of Aberdeen on goal difference after the Dons beat Hibernian by the same scoreline.

Mark McNulty gave Hibs a 26th-minute lead, but Sam Cosgrove equalised just before half-time and James Wilson struck just after the hour mark, following good work by Cosgrove and Stevie May, to seal the points.
