Steve Bruce: Newcastle boss gives orders to his players

Newcastle 1-2 Leeds: Steve Bruce sack race odds 4/6 as winless streak now 11 games

Leeds piled the pressure on beleaguered Steve Bruce by winning 2-1 at St James' Park, with the Newcastle manager's odds in the sack race betting slashed as a result.

Bruce was evens with 888Sport by full-time of his side's game, and when the majority of firms reopened the next Premier League manager to leave market at the conclusion of Tuesday's Premier League action, that price had shortened even further.

He already topped the betting with Sky Bet following Frank Lampard's sacking by Chelsea on Monday, and they have him brought him into to 4/6.

Premier League sack race odds

  • Steve Bruce - 4/6
  • Chris Wilder - 5/1
  • Graham Potter - 10/1
  • Roy Hodgson - 10/1
  • Nuno Espirito Santo - 14/1

But Paddy Power, Betfair and William Hill all appear fairly certain that the veteran boss is primed for the axe, with nearest challenger Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder way back at 5/1 across the board.

Newcastle are now without a win in 11 games in all competitions and have taken only two points from the last 27.

Their latest defeat, though deserved, was not in a similar fashion to their recent insipid displays.

It took Jack Harrison's sweet 61st-minute strike, four minutes after Miguel Almiron had cancelled out Raphinha’s first-half opener, to end Leeds' own three-game losing streak.

Bruce had added attack-minded duo Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy to the mix in the search for inspiration, and although his team got better as the game progressed, they emerged without reward once again.
