Norwich v Spurs blog recap: Premier League coverage - updates, statistics and in-play betting tips

A look back at our live coverage of the evening kick-off in the Premier League - Norwich 2-2 Spurs as it happened.

1926: That's all, folks!

What an eventful clash!

Thanks for joining us for more Premier League coverage. We will be adding a short report and highlights to our Premier League review here, so please do keep an eye on that.

Don't forget, Burnley v Man United is at 1945 GMT - keep track of that in the Sporting Life Score Centre.

And, looking ahead to tomorrow, don't forget to check out:

Enjoy the rest of your evening!

1924: FULL-TIME

  • Norwich 2-2 Tottenham

A rare point at home for Daniel Farke's side but probably deserved. Kane's penalty on his 200th Premier League appearance rescued a point for Jose Mourinho's side.

  • West Ham 1-2 Leicester

The Foxes return to winning ways, even with seven changes. Will Manuel Pellegrini make it to 2020 with his Hammers job intact?

1923: Heart in mouth moment for Norwich (2-2)

Krul comes running out of his box to get to a ball. Lucky for Canaries fans danger was averted. It looks like they might hold on. One last attack for Spurs.

1917: Seven minutes added time (2-2)

There we have it.

1913: Lamela nearly scores! (2-2)

The Argentinian playmaker's 20-yard shot was dipping and Krul got a strong hand to it. Norwich have four minutes plus stoppage time to hold on. That will be over four minutes after Vrancic's injury, you would imagine.

1912: Norwich sub (2-2)

Tettey is replaced by Cantwell.

1910: Update on the spectator at Carrow Road (2-2)

1909: GOAL! Norwich 2-2 Spurs (Kane)

The Spurs forward coolly dispatches after quite a delay. On his 200th appearance in the Premier League. 136th goal.

Hopefully you followed our tip to back the visitors to score the next goal!

1908: Penalty to Spurs! (2-1)

Kane has it in the box and cleverly Cruyff turns inside Zimmermann, whose tackle was clumsy. VAR confirms the spot-kick.

1906: Norwich staying strong (2-1)

Moura looks to find an opening but Norwich are crowding the box well and making it difficult to find a way through. 12 plus added time to go. Kane denied by Krul again.

1859: Eriksen's effort (2-1)

Eriksen growing in confidence and the Dane strides inside and shoots from around 20 yards. An awkward bouncing one for Krul but he does well to hold it.

Spurs are evens with Sky Bet to score next and the way they are pressuring Norwich now it would be no real surprise.

There's disruption in the stands. Hoping for a positive outcome:

1856: Burnley v Man United teams

No Paul Pogba, even with Scott McTominay injured...

1852: Spurs shot (2-1)

Lo Celso shoots from the edge of the box but Krul saves pretty comfortably. 25 minutes to salvage something from this one.

1848: GOAL! Norwich 2-1 Tottenham (Aurier OG)

Justice. Just what they deserved really.

Norwich carve Spurs open but Pukki's touch in the box is heavy and away from goal. As Alderweireld dispossesses him, the Belgian's touch ricochets off Serge Aurier and trickles past Gazzaniga. Pukki looks a little sheepish but he will not mind, no Norwich fan will after the first half!

1846: Goal at London Stadium

West Ham 1-2 Leicester (Demarai Gray)

1845: Alli denied (1-1)

The Spurs man is put through on the left of the box and lobs Krul but the referee blows up straight away. After a VAR check it is given the thumbs up for offside. Rightly so.

1841: GOAL! Norwich 1-1 Tottenham (Eriksen)

The Dane strikes and, with a slight deflection off the wall, it finds the back of the net! Eriksen punches the air in delight. He's needed that.

Could that be his last act in a Spurs shirt?

Norwich, however, can feel hard done by after being denied a second goal in the first half. A big turning point and not at all surprising.

Game on!

1841: Spurs chance (1-0)

A ball over the top is heading for Kane and Jamal Lewis jumps, misses it and handballs in the process. After frantic appeals, Spurs get the free-kick and Eriksen is stepping over to take it from 20 yards.

1837: Early second half thoughts (1-0)

It's barely got going here with a couple of head injuries to Norwich's player stopping play. Zimmerman was one - he received treatment and on his way off, with Spurs preparing to take a corner, fired up the crowd and shouting to his team-mates to defend. The home end liked that.

Vrancic, with a little mouth, looks a little dazed and is assessed for concussion. After a lengthier pause he is allowed to resume, surprisingly.

1833: Back underway (1-0)

The second half resumes and Spurs make two changes, with Davinson Sanchez and Lucas Moura on for Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth.

No wonder Vertonghen is off and seeing his defending for Pukki's disallowed goal.

1822: Stat attack

1817: HALF-TIME - Norwich 1-0 Tottenham

The Canaries lead by one but it should be two. The post-mortem will continue deep into the break.

Farke's side have played well and deserved the lead through Vrancic. Pukki's offside goal is the one that steals the headlines, though. All to play for in the second half now.

1816: Another goal in east London

Pablo Fornals draws the hosts level.

1812: Goal at the London Stadium

No Vardy, no problem (we wish it was Perez for our tips, though)...

1810: Replay of Pukki's disallowed goal

When it's not going your way...

1803: Norwich denied a great goal (1-0)

Pukki started in an offside position, delayed his run and met Vrancic's great ball over the top. Jan Vertonghen was weirdly caught ball watching, Pukki (of course) finishes past Gazzaniga.

But, after a VAR review, it is ruled out!

1801: Norwich enjoying this spell (1-0)

The Canaries are pushing for a second and Hanley met a corner in from Norwich's right and his header deflected off Alderweireld and just over. It goes out for a goal-kick, much to the home bench's disappointment.

1756: REPLAY (1-0)

Norwich are still enjoying a better spell, can they get another? Onel Hernandez tried his luck again but Juan Foyth did just enough to put him off.

In the meantime, here's their first:

1747: GOAL! Norwich 1-0 Tottenham (Vrancic)

That's been coming really. Vrancic is allowed space to run through the middle and from the edge of the box his shot is low and the Bosnian finds the back of the net for the first time in the Premier League. Gazzaniga should really have done better.

They have the lead, but can they hold it?

Our tip - Spurs to win and BTTS - is still in tact as this is all part of the plan! Norwich often score but fail to hold the lead. Time will tell...

Spurs have now conceded 16 goals in 10 games under Mourinho (all competitions). Very unlike Jose, but with the fixture congestion he has not had loads of time on the training ground to be fair.

1745: Krul to the rescue! (0-0)

The quick switch by Tottenham catches out the hosts as Alderweireld's ball over the top finds Kane in on his own, but Krul makes a great save. Hanley and Zimmermann should have been closer to Kane there. A huge let-off.

1743: At the London Stadium...

Leicester get a penalty and with no Jamie Vardy or James Maddison, Demarai Gray takes it and Lukasz Fabianski, on his return to the team, makes the save.

1739: Nearly for Norwich (0-0)

Spurs are caught at the back as Ndombele is sloppy on the ball. As the Frenchman scrambles to keep hold of it, Christian Eriksen runs into him and Norwich break into the box. Stiepermann gets a shot off and Gazzaniga makes a smart save down to his right.

At the other end, Zimmermann messes up due to Spurs' pressing and Alli skies it from the edge of the box.

1737: Settling in (0-0)

The home crowd are getting behind their team and Norwich have started brightly, with Paulo Gazzaniga coming off his line well to deny Onel Hernandez while Jamal Lewis has just fizzed a shot wide from the edge of the box. Spurs need to ride it out and settle into the game themselves.

1730: Kick off!

After a minute's applause for England great Martin Peters, who recently passed away aged 76, the visitors get us underway. A lovely tribute to a man who played for both clubs.

1715: Sporting Life tips

By yours truly - hopefully more to come after two winners on Wolves v Man City and one this afternoon on Watford v Southampton...

Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur

Norwich lost to an out-of-form Aston Villa side on Boxing Day and they dropped to the bottom of the table. The look destined for the drop in May.

It was, though, the first time in seven games that they have failed to score and if, as expected, Tottenham come out on top then the Canaries can at least get on the score sheet.

Daniel Farke's side have gone close against Wolves, Sheff United and Arsenal in recent home games and Spurs cannot travel to Norfolk thinking the job is already done.

Jose Mourinho should not let them get like that though and a couple of enforced changes in midfield should add fresher legs, with Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko joining Heung-min Son on the suspension list.

The only worry is that Harry Kane and Dele Alli looked shattered in the latter stages of the Boxing Day victory over Brighton, so Mourinho will be hoping they can recover here.

Spurs have conceded 15 goals in nine games under Mourinho (all competitions), keeping just one clean sheet, so backing an away victory with both sides scoring is a good priced option.

Super 6 prediction: Norwich 1-2 Spurs (Sky Bet odds: 15/2)

Best bet: Tottenham to win and BTTS at 21/10

Key stats

  • After a run of 12 Premier League away games without a win, Tottenham have won two of their last three on the road (L1). The Lilywhites are without a clean sheet in 16 Premier League away games, their longest run without one in the top-flight since a run of 20 between April 1976-April 1977.
  • Norwich are winless in their last six Premier League home games (D1 L5), and are without a clean sheet in their last 13 at Carrow Road in the competition. Indeed, the Canaries have conceded at least twice in their last eight Premier League home games, the second longest such run in the competition’s history (Wolves, 11 in April 2012).
  • Tottenham’s Harry Kane has scored four goals in his two Premier League appearances against Norwich. Indeed, in all competitions since the start of 2014-15, Kane has scored 17 goals in 15 games against sides he’s previously played for (13 in 12 vs Leicester, 4 in 2 vs Norwich, 0 in 1 vs Millwall).
  • Tottenham’s Dele Alli has been involved in more goals in all competitions for the club under José Mourinho than any other player (8 – 5 goals, 3 assists).
  • Tottenham striker Harry Kane has scored 135 goals in 199 Premier League appearances. The only players with more in their first 200 matches in the competition are Alan Shearer (145) and Sergio Agüero (138).

West Ham v Leicester City

Leicester have been impressive this season, answering most questions put to them, and now they have another test as they bid to bounce back from consecutive defeats.

Granted, it was against the league's best two teams in Liverpool and Man City but Brendan Rodgers' side need to show character and resilience to continue their good work.

It was disappointing to see the Foxes play more conservative against the top teams (like in the reverse at Liverpool and away at Man United earlier in the season) and you would hope they can return to what they do best now.

As important as he is, 32-year-old Jamie Vardy played 90 minutes against Jurgen Klopp's side and it will be interesting to see if he starts and if so how impactful he can be.

Ayoze Perez could return to the side as part of Rodgers' rotation in the festive period and the 11/4 price on him to score does appeal.

The Spaniard, who has four Premier League goals to his name this season, has had 15 shots in his last eight appearances. Rodgers has used him in more of a wide role in this Leicester side and his energy could be vital if Vardy is on the bench.

Super 6 prediction: West Ham 0-2 Leicester (Sky Bet odds: 9/1)

Best bet: Ayoze Perez to score anytime at 11/4

Key stats

  • West Ham have won just one of their last nine Premier League meetings with Leicester (D4 L4), with their 2-0 victory in May 2018 also their only clean sheet against the Foxes in this run.
  • West Ham have lost their last three Premier League home games, conceding three goals in each defeat. Only three teams in Premier League history have conceded 3+ goals in four consecutive home games – Crystal Palace in April 1998, Bradford in February 2001 and Fulham in March 2014. Of those sides, only Crystal Palace and Fulham lost all four games.
  • West Ham have dropped a league-high 15 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, more than they had in the entire season in both 2018-19 (12) and 2017-18 (14).
  • Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is the highest Premier League goalscorer in 2019 with 29 goals, and could become just the seventh different player to score as many as 30 in a single calendar year in the competition.

1705 Double century for Kane

  • Tottenham striker Harry Kane has scored 135 goals in 199 Premier League appearances. The only players with more in their first 200 matches in the competition are Alan Shearer (145) and Sergio Agüero (138).

1700 It's..............baby Vardy!

Sorry, Fantasy Football players.
