Former Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso has agreed to take over as head coach of Real Sociedad's reserve team on a two-year contract.
Alonso came up through the youth ranks of local club Sociedad before going on to enjoy a trophy-laden career with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
The 37-year-old, who also helped Spain win the 2010 World Cup and two European Championship titles, retired from playing in 2017 before turning his hand to coaching, most recently with Real Madrid's youth teams.
A statement on Sociedad's official website read: "Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Xabi Alonso to be head coach of Sanse for the next two seasons.
"The Tolosa-born coach, who joins from Real Madrid, returns home to be in charge of the txuri urdin reserve team.
"Aitor Zulaika will not continue as Sanse's head coach. Sanse's new technical staff will be announced in the coming days."
