Manchester United have opened discussions with Tottenham about signing Belgium centre-back Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.
Spurs have been stuck in negotiations with the 29-year-old about a new contract for months, with his current deal set to expire in 2020.
They have so far failed to reach an agreement and Jose Mourinho is hoping to take advantage by making a move this summer.
According to the Daily Mirror, Alderweireld has a clause in his contract stating he can leave for £25m in 2019, so Spurs could cash in with the possibility of making three times that figure this summer.
United are 6/4 favourites with Sky Bet to sign him before the end of the current window, with Barcelona 5/1, Paris Saint-Germain 7/1 and Premier League champions Man City priced at 10s along with Real Madrid.
Alderweireld joined Spurs in 2015 from Southampton, going on to forge a solid partnership with compatriot Jan Vertonghen in the centre of defence.
He made just 21 appearances for the club this season, with injuries and off-field issues seeing him miss a large chunk over the winter period.
