Rafael Benitez linked with Chelsea by Italian publication Tuttosport

Italian publication Tuttosport claim Rafa Benitez is on the verge of a return to Chelsea although he is 4/1 with Sky Bet to be the next permanent manager there.

Derby boss Frank Lampard is 1/4 favourite.

Current Stamford Bridge supremo Maurizio Sarri looks set to take over at Juventus while Benitez has yet to agree an extension at Newcastle despite talks with Mike Ashley. They have been delayed amid a potential takeover of the club by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan.

Tuttosport claim that contact between Chelsea chiefs and Benitez is imminent and Roman Abramovich will only sanction Sarri's departure when a replacement is in place.

Benitez won the Europa League during his previous stint at Stamford Bridge, guiding the club to third place in the Premier League.

Next permanent Chelsea manager (odds via Sky Bet)

  • Frank Lampard - 1/4
  • Rafa Benitez - 4/1
  • Jose Mourinho - 12/1
  • Massimilano Allegri - 12/1
  • Nuno Espírito Santo - 18/1
  • Erik ten Hag - 20/1
  • Steve Holland - 20/1
