Adelaide Strikers beat Hobart Hurricanes in Big Bash League final

Jake Weatherald hit a 58-ball century as Adelaide Strikers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 25 runs to land their maiden Big Bash League title.

The Strikers opener smashed nine fours and eight sixes in a fantastic knock of 115 from 70 balls as the Adelaide side made full use of their home advantage to rack up 202-2 from their 20 overs.

D'Arcy Short rounded off a fine season in the BBL with a 44-ball 68 but the Hurricanes never really threatened to chase down such an imposing total, finishing on 177-5, Peter Siddle taking 3-17 for the Strikers.

The Strikers made a rapid start to their innings before Jofra Archer (1-46) bowled Alex Carey (18) in the fifth over.

However, rather than stem the flow of runs, Weatherald continued his onslaught and Travis Head's supporting role saw him scoring at a strike-rate of over 150.

Weatherald was finally dismissed in the penultimate over of the innings, leaving Head (44no off 29 balls) and Colin Ingram (14no off six balls) to take the Strikers past 200.

Hobart lost Tim Paine (5) in the first over of their reply but a stand of 81 between Short and George Bailey (46 off 33 balls) gave the Hurricanes a glimmer of hope.

However, when Bailey was dismissed by Siddle in the 11th over, the Hurricanes were well behind the rate and by the time Siddle had Short caught behind in the 17th, the outcome was beyond doubt.

The Strikers saw the game out comfortably before the celebrations began in front of their home fans.
