South Africa defied the weather and a high Duckworth-Lewis method total to produce a remarkable five-wicket victory in the fourth one-day international against India
The Proteas were set a target of 202 in a reduced 28 overs in response to India's 289 for seven from their full 50 overs.
However, Andile Phehlukwayo hit 23 not out from just five deliveries while wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen cracked an unbeaten 43 off 27 balls to earn South Africa's first win in the six-match series.
India opener Shikhar Dhawan had earlier hit his 13th one-day century on his 100th appearance in the 50-over format with a knock of 109 to set the foundations of an imposing target for the hosts to chase in Johannesburg.
Only captain Virat Kohli (75) and MS Dhoni (42 not out) showed any resistance as Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets apiece to restrict the tourists to 289 for seven from their allotted overs.
Bad weather halted play for 93 minutes while South Africa were in the eighth over of their reply on 43 for one, before the second innings was reduced to 28 overs on their return.
Opener Hashim Amla hit 33 as AB de Villiers looked to up the run-rate in the middle of the order with 26 off 18 deliveries.
Big hitter David Miller pitched in with 39 runs from 28 and the late onslaught from Klaasen and Phehlukwayo coasted the hosts over the line.
Aiden Markram's side trail 3-1 in the series despite the unlikely win and will need to triumph on Tuesday in Port Elizabeth to prevent India from taking an unassailable lead.
