Veteran Somerset opener Marcus Trescothick is to have surgery on his broken foot with a lengthy layoff possible.
Somerset announced on their club website that the 42-year-old former England batsman will have an operation after breaking a metatarsal during the drawn Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire at Old Trafford.
Trescothick, who sustained the injury on his way to scoring a century, said: "I'll be having an operation on Monday, and then we'll just have to take it from there.
"At this stage the recovery time is a bit unknown, so we will just have to wait and see how it goes.
"Obviously it's not the ideal situation - but there are much worse things in life than a broken foot."
