Graham Ford has stepped down as Sri Lanka's head coach.
Ford, the former Kent director of cricket and Surrey head coach, was appointed in February 2016 and had a contract through to the 2019 World Cup.
The 56-year-old South African oversaw an historic 3-0 Test series victory over Australia - then the number one ranked side in world cricket - last year.
But Sri Lanka were whitewashed in South Africa in both the Test and ODI series last winter, and this month failed to progress from the group stages of the Champions Trophy in England.
"It's been a privilege to work with these talented young men over the past 15 months," Ford told srilankacricket.lk.
"Their passion for the sport is inspiring, as is indeed this nation's."
Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala added: "This was a decision arrived at mutually after careful consideration and deliberation and we are both confident of its propriety."
