County Championship review: Will Rhodes stars in win for Warwickshire

A review of Monday's action in the Specsavers County Championship as Warwickshire wrapped up a quickfire victory.

Warwickshire extended their lead at the top of the Second Division with an emphatic victory over Gloucestershire inside two days in the Specsavers County Championship.

Gloucestershire were bowled out for just 103 in their second innings at Edgbaston to lose by an innings and 47 runs. Ryan Sidebottom took four for 42.

Earlier Will Rhodes hit a career-best 137 in Warwickshire's 277. Having resumed on 171 for two, the hosts lost eight wickets for 106 runs on the second day with Craig Miles taking five for 69, but the lead proved more than sufficient.

Struggling Worcestershire took complete control of their First Division encounter with Yorkshire at Scarborough.

Daryl Mitchell (140 not out) and Moeen Ali (107 not out) both hit centuries as Worcestershire, responding to Yorkshire's 216, closed on 310 for one.

The pair had put on an unbroken 199 for the second wicket after the loss of opener Tom Fell for 45.

Somerset were in command of their encounter against Essex at Taunton.

The hosts posted 324 in their first innings before bowling Somerset out for 191.

Marcus Trescothick fell early as Somerset began their second innings, but, as they closed on 32 for one with a lead of 165, they were on course to set a big target.

Hampshire were building a big lead against Nottinghamshire at Southampton.

Fidel Edwards took six for 50 as the visitors were bowled out for 166 to concede a first-innings deficit of 111.

Captain James Vince then hit 147 as Hampshire closed on 253 for four, 364 ahead.

Back in the second tier, bottom side Glamorgan appeared to be heading towards defeat against Durham at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan were 79 for seven in their second innings, still trailing by 62, after a collapse. Only Nicholas Selman (26) and Connor Brown (18) reached double figures.

Durham had claimed a first-innings lead of 141 with Axar Patel scoring 95 of their 295.

Derbyshire made a spirited response to promotion-chasing Sussex's 440 at Hove.

The visitors ended the day on 315 for five after 122 from captain Billy Godleman and with Alex Hughes unbeaten on 60.

Earlier, Sussex's David Wiese fell seven short of a century.

Northamptonshire forced Middlesex to follow on at Wantage Road.

After being bowled out for 346 in their first innings, the hosts then ran through Middlesex for 187 with Nathan Buck taking four wickets.

Middlesex were 32 for one second time around, still trailing by 127.

Leicestershire led Kent by 151 with five second innings wickets remaining at Grace Road.

Mohammad Abbas took six for 48 and Ben Raine the other four wickets as Leicestershire bowled out Kent for 195 in reply to their 220.

Harry Dearden was unbeaten on 61 but, with Leicestershire 126 for five after four wickets from Ivan Thomas, the game was delicately poised.
