One of only three German stadia to receive a 'five-star award' by UEFA (the others being in Hamburg and Munich), the Arena AufSchalke only opened in 2001 but has already hosted a Champions League final.
The home of Schalke 04, it can hold over 53,000 spectators and includes a removable playing surface and a giant video cube inside its retractable roof.
Constructed at a cost of 192 million euros, FIFA president Sepp Blatter describes the state-of-the-art arena as a "pilot project for the whole world". |
