World Cup 2006: stadiums picture

  Frankfurt: Overview

Built specifically for this summer's tournament, the new Waldstadion holds over 48,000 people and hosted Bundesliga football last season as the home of newly-promoted top-flight outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

The original stadium on the site was built in the 1920s and hosted games in the last World Cup in Germany.

Yet it was rebuilt at a cost of over 120million euros and was given its first international exposure as the venue for last summer's Confederations Cup final.
