MILLENIUM MAN MISSES MILLENIUM CELEBRATIONS

WBO World Super-Middleweight Champion, Joe Calzaghe, misses out on his Christmas and New Year celebration while he trains intensively for his showdown with David Starie.

Calzaghe (27-0, 23 KO's) finally makes the fifth defence of his title against Bury St Edmunds' Starie on the Mike Tyson undrcard on January 29 at the Manchester Evening News Arena after a frustrating year of injuries.

"Missing out on the Millenum celebrations is only a small price to pay. I have already missed out on two brilliant opportunities to be seen on American television and I am not going to miss this chance. It will be third time lucky for me!

"Starie's a good challenge for me but there's no way he will win. I've had more knock-outs than he's had fights and I've got the experience of beating the best in my division in Chris Eubank and Robin Reid. On the night he will see - and also the public will see - the best Joe Calzaghe to date."

Calzaghe will be watched by a stggering 21,000 spectators at the MEN Arena and by millions watching around the world, but this does not phase the explosive southpaw, "With Tyson fighting it has only enhanced my profile, the world can now see Joe Calzaghe at his best, no injuries, fully fit and ready to KO Starie. My promoter Frank Warren promised me that I would get world wide exposure and he has delivered."

Starie (22-1, 16 KO's) is the current British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight Champion and is making his first attempt at World honours. He last fight was a points win over Teryumiruz Kekeledzie in October.

Premier promotor Frank Warren said, "This is the biggest night of my promotional career. Against tremendous odds I have brought Mike Tyson to fight in Britain for the first time ever. The fight is phenomenal, it sold out in two days and people are still ringing for tickets. Not only do fans get to see Tyson, but they will see Calzaghe in a thrilling encounter with Starie. Calzaghe has a lot of lost ground to make up for but this fight will give him the world-wide exposure that we have been working tirelessly towards achieving."

Tyson's British debut will be live on Sky Box Office 3. The event will be available for £11.95 to all Sky satellite subscribers (after midnight on Friday 28 January analogue customers will pay £16.95). There will be two repeat screenings the following day at 9am & 12 noon. Cable customers should contact their local cable operator for pricing and availability.
