SHIGA KOGEN

Back to snowboarding.

Back to Alpine skiing.

One of the largest ski resorts in the world Shiga Kogen, 30 miles out of Nagano, will play host to the alpine slalom events and the snow boarding.

Twice as large as America's biggest ski area, Shiga welcomes in the region of 2.5 million skiers each year.

The giant slalom for both men and women will run down the 2,030 meter high Mount Higahidate, in the centre of the town, and will cut through a dense forest making for a difficult run.

The slalom and combined slalom events for both men and women will be held on Mount Yakebitai which is 2 miles north of Mount Higahidate.

The runs, which are on the eastern side of the mountain are known for their varied terrain

The snowboard giant slalom events, for both men and women will also be held on Mount Yakebitai.

However the freestyle snowboard events, known as halfpipe events will be held in the Kanbayashi Snowboard Park in Yamanouchi Town.
