France's Amelie Mauresmo capped an impressive week with a powerful victory over Australian Open champion Jennifer Capriati in the final of the Berlin Open.
Mauresmo, the fourth seed, eventually overcame Capriati 6-4 2-6 6-3 to claim her fourth WTA title of the year a win that moves her into a career-high world ranking of number six.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form since returning from serious back problems, winning back-to-back titles in Paris, Nice and Amelia Island before losing to reigning world number one Martina Hingis in the quarter-finals at Charleston in the United States at the end of April.
But Mauresmo gained sweet revenge on Hingis, defeating the Swiss Miss in the semi-finals, en route to today's title win.
"It's one of the best of my career," said Mauresmo of her victory.
"The win today gives me a lot of confidence, knowing I can beat top players."
With the French Open kicking off later this month, Mauresmo has shown she will be a difficult opponent to beat on home soil and is not concerned at the possibilty that she has peaked too early.
"I'm not worried about it. I was playing well earlier this year too," she said.
Capriati admitted that she lost to a superior opponent on the day but emphasised this tournament is just preparation for Roland Garros.
"I thought it was a high quality match. I didn't play my best tennis here, but I want to peak for the French Open so hopefully I'll be playing my best there," she said.
