Jelena Jankovic ended her wait for a first title in 2009 by beating Spanish player Carla Suarez Navarro to win the Andalucia Tennis Experience tournament.
Serbia's former world number one suffered miserable early defeats in Indian Wells and Miami in the last month, losing her opening match on both occasions to players from outside the top 30.
Jankovic has slipped from the top spot to number four in the world because of her mediocre form this year, and Sunday's final appearance was her first since October.
Seeded second, she beat fifth seed Suarez Navarro by a 6-3 3-6 6-3 margin in Marbella. However the Spanish player, 34th in the world rankings, gave a creditable display in her first WTA Tour final.
After struggling on the American hard courts, Jankovic will be hoping victory at her first clay-court event of the year is an omen of good times ahead, leading up to next month's French Open.
