Russia sealed victory in the Fed Cup final on Sunday by winning the third rubber.
Svetlana Kuznetsova saved two match points against Italy's Francesca Schiavone to win 4-6 7-6 (9/7) 7-5 and give her side an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Moscow tie.
Schiavone served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but the world number two broke back, yet still the Italian had the chance to finish things off in the tie-break only to miss her two match points.
Kuznetsova made her pay by edging the decider, much to the delight of the crowd.
After lengthy celebrations, Elena Vesnina beat Mara Santangelo 6-2 6-4 in the dead singles rubber to make the final scoreline 4-0. The doubles rubber was not played.
Kuznetsova, the runner-up in last weekend's US Open final, and Anna Chakvetadze had won their rubbers on Saturday to put Russia into a strong postition heading into the final day.
The victory sees Russia lift the trophy for the third time in four years.
