Third-seeded Serbian Ana Ivanovic landed a fourth career singles title with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Nadia Petrova in the East West Bank Classic final on Sunday.
Playing in her first tournament since losing to Venus Williams in the semi-finals at Wimbledon last month, Ivanovic won 10-of-11 sets at this hardcourt event en route to her second singles title of the season.
The 19-year-old won the Berlin Open in May after winning in Montreal last year and Canberra in 2005.
After closing out her first set win with an emphatic forehand winner against her Russian opponent, Ivanovic broke Petrova in the first game of the second set.
From that point the players held serve culminating in a dominant final game by Ivanovic, highlighted by a pair of strong forehand winners. She went ahead 40-0 at 5-4 in the third set before finishing off the fourth seed with an ace.
The Serbian improved to 4-2 in her career against Petrova, who had advanced to the final via walkover when top-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova was forced to withdraw from their semi-final match with muscle tightness in her lower left leg.
