Russian Yaroslava Shvedova made her first appearance in a final count.
Shvedova won her first WTA tour title on Sunday at the Sony Ericsson International.
Shvedova posted a 6-4 6-4 victory over top seed Mara Santangelo of Italy in the final. The unseeded 19-year-old beat the defending champion in 96 minutes.
A break in the seventh game of the opening set was the opening Shvedova needed after trading breaks early on.
She came through with another break of Santangelo early in the second set and held on to the advantage to win.
Ranked 143rd going into the tournament, Shvedova's best showing before reaching her first career final was a second-round appearance at Philadelphia in 2005 and Memphis last year.
