Nicole Vaidisova served notice that she will have to be reckoned with at the French Open.
The second seed from the Czech Republic beat Shuai Peng of China, 7-6 (9-7) 6-3, on Saturday in the final at the Strasbourg International.
It is the sixth career WTA tour crown for Vaidisova, who is seeded 16th for the upcoming French Open.
"This is the best preparation for Roland Garros," Vaidisova said. "To win an event on the same surface is the best preparation you can have. I'm extremely happy with my week in Strasbourg and I'm going into Paris as well-prepared as I can be."
Notching her 99th career singles win, Vaidisova had to fight out of an early 3-0 hole and only claimed the first set after Peng committed a pair of crucial errors in the tiebreaker.
"I had to cut down on my errors to get back on track," Vaidisova said. "She had a couple of chances in the tie-break to take the set but I was luckier.
We were both nervous."
Things did not get any easier for Czech teenager in the second set, as she coughed up a 3-0 lead before taking control.
"I was up 3-0 in the second set and I let that get away from me, but managed to pull it out in the end," Vaidisova said.
Peng upset defending champion Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain in the semi-finals of this Tier III claycourt event.
