Marion Bartoli cruised to a 6-2 6-2 victory over eighth seed Vera Zvonareva in
the final of the WTA ASB Classic in Auckland.
The 21-year-old Frenchwoman broke Zvonareva in the third game and broke the
Russian again to lead 5-2 before serving out for the opening set.
The sixth seed was in control throughout the second set and at 5-1 had three
match points but Zvonareva saved them all before eventually holding her serve.
But it only prolonged the agony as Bartoli held her serve in the next game to
complete her first WTA Tour victory.
Bartoli had sneaked into the final when top seed Nadia Petrova retired with a
left thigh injury in their semi-final clash.
