Sania Mirza became the first Indian to win on the WTA Tour by claiming her hometown title in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The 18-year-old saw off ninth seed Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine, winning 6-4 5-7 6-3 in the final of the ING VYSYA Hyderabad Open.
Mirza, who won Junior Wimbledon last year, battled thigh and ankle injuries to prevent Bondarenko making a fightback in the final set, much to the crowd's delight.
