Russian Elena Likhovtseva ended a seven-year title drought at the Forest Hills Classic.

She beat Czech Iveta Benesova 6-2 6-2 in Saturday's final in New York.

It was only her second match of the Tier V event, having received a first-round bye and then a quarter-final walkover when opponent Marion Bartoli withdrew.

The Russian's previous tournament victory had come on Australia's Gold Coast in 1997.
