Lindsay Davenport claimed her fourth straight tournament victory with a 6-3
6-2 rout of Russian Vera Zvonareva in the final of the Western & Southern
Financial Group Women's Open in Cincinnati.
Davenport, the top seed who won earlier this summer at Stanford, Los Angeles
and San Diego, advanced to the final of the hardcourt event in a walkover on
Saturday when fourth seed Marion Bartoli withdrew with a blister on her right
hand.
Davenport dropped just nine games in the final three rounds.
Ranked fourth in the world, the American has won 17 straight matches and has
been victorious in 48 of 54 contests this year.
A gold medalist at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, Davenport elected not to
participate in this year's Olympics in Athens.
Zvonareva, the second seed, saved two match points against third-seeded
American Amy Frazier in the semi-finals on Saturday night but was outclassed by
the impressive Davenport in this one.
