World number one Justine Henin-Hardenne beat third seed
Amelie Mauresmo 6-4 6-4 to win the women's final of the adidas International.
Henin-Hardenne finally completed the victory on her own serve after
previously failing to convert three match points.
She will head into the Australian Open high on confidence and with substantial
victory claims after the women's draw at the season-opening Grand Slam was
blighted by injury withdrawals.
"I'm very happy. It's the first victory this year. That's great because it
gives me confidence before the Australian Open," she said.
Henin-Hardenne has been drawn to face 15-year-old Australian Olivier
Lukaszewicz, ranked 922 in the world.
"I just saw her on TV yesterday," said Henin-Hardenne, who admitted she had
never heard of the wild card.
"It's not easy playing someone you don't know at all. It's probably more
difficult than playing somebody you know perfectly."
