Unseeded Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez stunned top seed Caroline Wozniacki to win the Collector Swedish Open in Bastad.
Martinez, ranked 45 places below Wozniacki at 54th in the world, recorded a 7-5 6-4 win in one hour 36 minutes.
The Dane, who was celebrating her 19th birthday, led 4-1 in the second set only for her unheralded opponent to reel off the next five games.
Martinez got just 44 per cent of her first serves in, but proved far more impressive on her opponent's serve as she converted five of her 11 break points to claim victory.
Martinez Sanchez said: "I'm very happy about my win today and how I played. It was really windy but I think that helped me, because I like to serve and volley and Caroline played more from the baseline.
"I'm really proud I was able to beat the number nine player in the world. It was a great week for me."
